Professional Proofreader, Sunnyside, WA
I will save you time by making sure your transcripts are free of grammatical errors, double checking dates and attorneys’ names, and working with your deadlines.
Why do you need a proofreader? It’s well known that court reporters who use proofreaders have significantly fewer errors on their transcripts than court reporters who don’t. Still not sure? I’ll proofread 20 pages for 20 cents. If you’re not completely satisfied, I’ll refund those pages.
From casamo.com’s article "Importance of Court Reporter Proofreaders": “Unfortunately, experience doesn’t necessarily prevent mistakes—nor does lack of experience cause mistakes. If the transcript is poorly written, has grammatical errors, or appears to be sloppy, then it’s highly probable that the court reporter’s services will not be used again…a proofreader can ensure all transcripts are 100% accurate for both the court’s satisfaction as well as the court reporter’s reputation.” Read the whole article here: https://www.casamo.com/importance-of-court-reporter-proofreaders/#.WmeQTdXZdPA.google
Okay, but why use me? I habitually strive for excellence in all I do. Said Aristotle, “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit”, and his words really resonate with me.
To become an excellent proofreader, I’ve studied with Caitlin Pyle’s Proofread Anywhere, which is a very thorough course and includes more than 3,000 pages of practice transcripts.
The course is based around Morson’s English Guide for Court Reporters, by Lillian I. Morson, and I use it as a reference as well as The Gregg Reference Manual, by William A. Sabin and Court Reporting: Bad Grammar/Good Punctuation, by Margie Wakeman Wells.
I know that transcribing is a work of art and everyone has their own set of brushes, or references, they use. When I proofread your transcripts, I’ll have you fill out a preference sheet so I can be familiar with your own personal style.
