Bioglandin Injection is a prescription medicine that contains alprostadil. It is used in newborn babies to keep a heart vessel called the ductus arteriosus open until heart surgery or another corrective treatment can be done. The medicine works by acting like a natural body substance called prostaglandin E1, which helps improve blood flow and maintain the open vessel in babies with certain congenital heart defects. Because of this, it is administered only by trained healthcare professionals in a hospital setting where the baby can be closely monitored.
