In Path of Exile 2, the most expensive mistake in Forbidden Rites can be leaving every event objective until your character reaches the endgame. Spending Path of Exile 2 Currency on equipment may support character growth, but it won't replace attention to campaign encounters or the exact enemies an objective names. Plan around the challenges as you progress, then decide which remaining goals deserve a dedicated session.

Use reward checkpoints to set your target

Forbidden Rites has eight challenges, with cosmetic rewards at four milestones. Two completed challenges grant Locust Footprints, four unlock the Locust Swarm Rare Finisher Effect, six provide the Wildwood Guardian Pet, and eight award the Wildwood Affliction Level-up Effect. These checkpoints let you decide how far to push based on the rewards you actually want.

The Forbidden Rites Totem hideout decoration also develops as objectives are completed, starting with the first challenge. Because it records your completed challenge count, it gives you a visible progress marker between cosmetic milestones. A player interested in the pet, for example, can aim for six completions without treating the remaining two as mandatory.

Handle encounters while the campaign takes you there

Ritual encounters appear throughout the story, so check the event objectives before moving through campaign areas. When an encounter matches a requirement and fits your route, completing it immediately can save a separate return trip. This approach works best for players who are still developing their characters and have not yet passed the relevant encounters.

Don't stop for every activity solely because it appears on the screen. Read the objective first and distinguish a useful encounter from one that does not address your remaining goals. If your character struggles with a particular fight, improving equipment or returning later is a reasonable tradeoff; time spent repeatedly failing an encounter is not progress toward the next reward.

Track named enemies separately from routine fights

Named Rare monster objectives need more attention than a general goal such as gaining levels. An unrelated Rare enemy does not satisfy a requirement for a specific target, even if the fight looks similar. Check the wording before committing to an activity, and keep a simple record of targets you have already defeated.

Once you reach the endgame, review any unfinished named objectives before choosing maps or other activities. The useful question is which target remains, not merely how many Rare enemies you can defeat. If the next cosmetic milestone requires several completions, compare the outstanding objectives and pursue the ones your character can address without interrupting other progress unnecessarily.

Protect experience on the way to Level 90

Level 90 is a sustained character growth goal rather than a single encounter to clear. Frequent deaths can erase experience and make an otherwise fast route feel slow, so favor content your character can complete consistently. Reliable defenses and steady clearing matter more here than damage that only helps in occasional bursts.

Adjust your activity when your progress stalls. If a difficult encounter repeatedly causes deaths, move to content your build handles more safely while you improve its defenses. Conversely, once Level 90 is complete, continuing an experience focused routine won't address a missing named target; switch to the activity required by the remaining objective.

After your next reward checkpoint, inspect the unfinished challenges and choose one concrete target for the next session. If equipment is holding your character back, you may decide to buy cheap Path of Exile 2 Currency, but keep that decision separate from the objective itself. Better gear can support safer progression, while the correct encounter or enemy still has to be completed.
